Lego Minifigs - Lucky for Some

Although these chappies don't look much, they're significant for me:

They're the last two minifigs of series thirteen that I needed to complete the set, all sixteen:

They range in colour from brown (a paleontologist and the town sheriff):

Lego Simpsons

Now I like Lego and I like the Simpsons: yes, it's lost it's edge over the years, and I got into (and out of) Family Guy, but it's still pretty good. However, I'm not so sure about the latest Lego minifig series:

The Lego Movie

Seems like Lego have made their own movie and tied in the latest min-figs series:

A barista and an executive-type with amazing hair.

New Lego - 'Ello, 'Ello, It's the Blues Brothers

I got some more series 11 the other day while in town. Looks like Elwood finally got busted!

All very monochrome.

New Lego - Minifigs Series 11

I didn't finish series 10 in the end, but series 11 is out. I've got a Yeti, a climber, a gingerbread man and a German lady with a pretzel:

No, I don't get it either, but at least everyone seems happy enough, and the Yeti has an ice lolly, which is nice.

New Lego - Commander Decorated

I got some new lego minifigs from series 10 today:

The rings on the sailor's sleeve indicate he's a Commander in the RN: four rings is a Captain.

I also got another Penguin Special from John at the shop the other day:

S209 from 1962, just as the Wall went up and the Cuban Missile Crisis was looming. It's weird to think that an entire generation has no recollection of the Cold War.

New Lego - First of the Mohicans

I got some new Lego Minifigs the other day:

There's been a study going round from some University in New Zealand saying that the faces of the figures are getting angrier. The Mohican doesn't look exactly happy.

New Lego - Bad Hair Day

I got some new series 10 today and looks very bad for someone:

An Amazon and a Gorgon (but it's all Greek to me!). I also found a shop which still sells previous series:

The Black Knight looks like he could start a fight in an empty room, and as the old proverb goes: give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he becomes an Eskimo.

New Lego - Revolution

I've got some new lego from series 10, and it's revolutionary!

He doesn't look happy. Maybe he needs a cup of tea?

As you can see, I also got a grandad and a baseball player.

New Lego - New Series

Series 10 of the current run of Lego Minifigs has been issued and I've got two new ones, a Centurion and a Skydiver:

The Roman looks like he's about to poke someone's eye out with his Gladius.

As well as the usual type of figures there is a remote chance of finding a unique figure, Mr Gold, one of only 5000!

New Lego - An Oscar!

I got some new Lego the other day.

This is still series 9, so the odds have increased to 16 - 3 (just over 5 - 1) against me finding another one I haven't got. Not as good odds as the Grand National winner this year (66-1!). I also got some from series 8 as well the other day:

Alien Invasion - on Rollerskates

I've got two new Lego minifigs today, an Alien Invader and a roller girl:

They both look angry enough to start a fight in an empty room.

Here's a thing. How lucky was I that I got these two, which I didn't already have, given that I already had ten unique figures and there are sixteen in this series? It should, I recon, have been 8-3 each, or 5⅓-1 together. Now the odds are 4-1, so should I get two at a time or one? Would it make a difference?

Oxfam Tuesday - Hat's Off To The Thief

Anne asked me to do the afternnon shift at the shop. It was absolutely freezing upstairs and I spent most of the shift slumped against the radiator, which was turned on full blast. Lee had left a soul/blues compilation on the CD player and it had some rather good Nina Simone:

The most annoying thing about the shift was that we had some old 78's pinched. Dave had put some on a shelf near the till and a rather shifty-looking chap was examining them. I told him that there were some more nearby, but he said that he didn't like the look of them as they had price labels on (Hmmmm...). Anyhoo, another customer asked me to look for something away from the till, and when I looked around he was gone, along with the 78's. Bizarrely, in his haste, he'd left his hat, so I stappled a note on it to the effect that whoever wanted the hat back had stolen the 78's, a description of the culprit and his possible accomplice (the woman who'd distracted me at the too coincidental moment).

After today's bad luck, I wonder what will the rest of the week be like?. Maybe I should ask a fortune teller?

George Orwell and a Knight at the Opera

On the way back from college, I popped into Bluewater to have a nice cup of coffee and nosey about. In Waterstones, they had a display of that non-South African author George Orwell. They had Politics and the English Language in pamphlet form for 99p. Bargain!

It's one of his best essays and most readable, after Lion and the Unicorn. It can be read in it's entirety here, and it's especially good for people who know English as a second language. Radio 4 have also been running a series on the author recently.

I also stopped in the Lego shop and found a Knight!

He seems a cheerful chappie, doesn't he.

Oxfam Friday - It's a Cop Out

I did a morning shift at the shop after Mark had been let down by Georgina, so I got to play some more tunes on the top deck, including some serious Bob Marley and the Wailers!

Afterwards I was caught by the fuzz!

I got a new Lego Minifigure, this time Caesar himself!

Friday - More Lego

I've bought a few more Lego Mini-figures. A bit of an improvement:

A mermaid, what looks like an astronaut (or a robot?) and an alien of some kind. With a club.

I was in the Lego shop in Bluewater the other day and they have this little workbench with a kind of hopper in the middle. You can mix and match heads, bodys and legs to make you're own custom figure for £3.50 each. Nice!

Oxfam Friday

Mark asked me to do Friday morning at the shop and I served behind the upstairs till until 1PM. I was in a bit of an OCD mood and sorted out the spare DVD's, making sure everything was up to stock and, in particular, that any surplus wasn't taking up room. For example, we had seven Spiderman's, so I reduced that to three. I'll be surprised if we sell them.

Michelle said hello and asked me whether the pricing on some graphic novels was correct. I thought so, but I thought one was a bit pricey and might not sell: it was Marvel X-Men-type-thing, but you never know. There wasn't anything of interest in the pile, nothing to to cause me to say "wow!", which was a shame, but that's the trade for you. At least, unlike Utopia, the new TV drama on Channel 4, no-one is trying to kill anybody over them:

I'm trying desperately to like it (any TV series based around people reading a comic book is worth a look), but it's just too violent.

While I was in Chelmsford, I noticed these Lego Minifigures that you can get for £2. I bought a couple just to see what they're like. I think I was a bit unlucky, because I got Maid Marion and a cheerleader.
